Do not add to his words – The Book of Mormon

Jim writes, “Proverbs 30:6 says, ‘Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar’ (NIV). The Book of Mormon was established years after this was already written and established as truth in the Bible. God would not have had this written if he was later going to add to it.”

Jim, I have enjoyed talking to you about something that is very important to me. I think that I’ve said everything that can be said about how you may know if the Book of Mormon is the word of God.

In answer to your question, Proverbs was written about 700 bc. If nobody was to add to the words from that point on, then we would have to do away with the entire New Testament.

I don’t see going back and forth trying to interpret what a certain verse in the Bible means to you or to me from another perspective as productive. We can pick and choose a singular verse to make it seem like it is proving our point. I don’t want to cherry pick scriptures to try and prove a point.

I wish you well brother. God is not limited to what the apostles chose to write down from the teachings of Jesus’s mortal ministry and what the people who compiled the Bible decided to include. God is not limited to that being His only words. He is all-powerful. He is Alpha and Omega, the ever-living God. He loves His children wherever they may live, not just those who were living during biblical times. He continues to speak to us today. I seek Him. I want to know Him. I believe the Book of Mormon is rich with His words, and it is entirely compatible with the Bible, which I also believe is the word of God.

I believe you to be a good person. Don’t let pride in thinking that you know more about the word of God keep you from finding more light and from feeling the impressions of the Holy Ghost which will testify of the truth of all things.

Around 421 A.D., As Moroni was sealing the the gold plates and burying them, he knew that he was doing it according to God’s instruction for a wise purpose. He said, “The time speedily cometh that ye shall know that I lie not, for ye shall see me at the bar of God; and the Lord God will say unto you: Did I not declare my words unto you, which were written by this man, like as one crying from the dead, yea, even as one speaking out of the dust?” Moroni 10:27

I don’t know how to top that, so I will let Moroni’s word stand on their own. His words are as one speaking out of the dust. The Book of Mormon was brought forth in our time to help God’s children believe on His Son Jesus Christ, the Redeemer and Savior of the world. Its words are true. God bless you my brother.
