The Widow’s Mite in Mexico

Two years ago, my daughter Maggie and I went on a humanitarian trip of sorts with a charity called A Child’s Hope Foundation.  We traveled down to the Buena Vida Orphanage, in Baja, Mexico to work on the orphanage that they were building. We quickly grew to love these children, aging from toddlers to teenagers preparing to go to college.

Love your enemies

As I followed the arrows around the building to the drive-thru, and just about as I was to enter the part where you place your order, a little old white Ford Escort came flying towards me going the wrong way and cut me off turning sharply to go into the drive-thru.

C.S. Lewis – Charity

I heard this quote today and I really liked it. “If our charities do not at all pinch or hamper us, I should say they are too small. There ought to be things we should like to do and cannot do because our charitable expenditure excludes them.” – C.S. Lewis If you are looking atContinueContinue reading “C.S. Lewis – Charity”

Une soirée musicale

I wanted to share this music on YouTube so former missionaries and friends in France could enjoy this music. I love the music and the message, and it reminds me of Christmas, serving in France, listening to this tape. I hope you enjoy it. There are probably some French mistakes. If you want to messageContinueContinue reading “Une soirée musicale”

This is hydrocephalus

I’m a land lover. I am not crazy about flying. I like the rubber on the pavement and my feet on the ground. Up here in the Olympic Peninsula, they have these things called ferries. Not the kind you see in Fablehaven with magical powers, but the kind which float on water. They are largeContinueContinue reading “This is hydrocephalus”

Teach me to walk in the light

We sang this song today in church and our awesome neighbor Rachel Gillette sent me this amazing picture today of my wife Jen Bringhurst reading to Xavier. I thought I’d share both since they go together so well.

MTC Day – Life moves pretty fast

As I opened Facebook today, a flood of memories and feelings came to me as I saw pictures of what was going on two years ago on this day.  In some ways two years is not a long time. We’ve had a lot of change in our life over the past two years (as I’mContinueContinue reading “MTC Day – Life moves pretty fast”

Live younger, think older.

I really like this idea of “I will live younger, but think older.” Some of the people I have looked up to most in my life are from my grandmother’s generation and many were her friends. This is worth sharing: “Today I was honored to speak to the graduating class of BYU–Hawaii. The message IContinueContinue reading “Live younger, think older.”

President Nelson visits Seattle

When I talk about prophets, many outside of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints think of Old Testament prophets such as Abraham, Moses, Noah and Isaiah. The Latter-day Saints think of modern prophets right along with these prophets of the Old Testament. We believe that God still speaks to prophets, whom He has chosenContinueContinue reading “President Nelson visits Seattle”

Hardened hearts

I’ve been noticing a lot in the Book of Mormon recently the use of the words “hardening hearts.” It has stood out to me more over the past month than in my previous readings. In 2 Nephi 33:2, in The Book of Mormon, it says, “But behold, there are many that harden their hearts againstContinueContinue reading “Hardened hearts”
